The nominations were announced today by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and mark Vox’s second consecutive year earning Emmy nominations. The most likely explanation is budgeting, with Vox potentially choosing to cancel the series because it wasn’t a financially viable option going forward. Harris then goes onto say that he “understands the reasoning” for why this decision surrounding the future of Vox Borders had to be made, but he never specifically indicated a reason for why exactly the series was cancelled. It really pushed forward my interest and understanding of issues around the world outside of America and my own country. Very heartbroken, Vox Borders was genuinely the best video series on Youtube.
However, the upcoming season that focused on the United States was “in production at a time when everything kind of started to change” – with the video displaying images of both the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and Black Lives Matter movement. In his video, Harris revealed that “the fifth season of Borders was in production and in fact, we shot most of it and developed it.” Whilst the announcement video suggests that the series was cancelled because of the ongoing public health and social issues in America, a definitive reason was not given.
